The $ix Rack (SEASON 2!) Presented by Trav: Week 7

HEART…BREAK…CITY!

We were oh so close to finally having the perfect week. For any of you who missed this dramatic ending, the Sooners had the ball at the Texas 33 with 10 seconds left. Texas, who had an 18-point lead with 2 minutes left in the third quarter, was still in a great position to cover the 3.5 point spread they were getting. The Sooners decided to run one more play to get a little bit closer for their kicker. Then this happened:

I’ll be honest here and admit that I was working on Saturday. I actually walked into a patient room assuming I was about to win with a field goal. Here is a quick recap of me going through the 5 stages of grief upon checking the score:

  1. Denial: me assuming the Bleacher Report app was wrong and checking one, then two, then three, then like 10 other sources to confirm
  2. Anger: went double birds to the patient who was now leaving the exam room. Also started drafting a expletive-filled letter addressed to Sark.
  3. Bargaining: Thinking about how I was due for one of these. And I had this coming putting any faith in the Longhorns. Also, realizing I did win my Houston-Tulsa over bet on a similar play.
  4. Depression: Deleting all my betting apps. Texting the editor vowing to never bet again.
  5. Acceptance: Redownloading the apps. Throwing down twelve parlays and doubling down on all other picks this weekend to make up for the loss.

(Note: I may have made #2 up and #4 and #5 may be exaggerated.)

Personally, it was a pretty wild weekend for me between Penn State’s loss and the Bills win. I was truly on both ends of the football fan spectrum this weekend. Definitely need to recalibrate and get my mentals right for this action-packed Week 7.

Let’s get to some future predictions again quickly. As I said last week, I’m sticking with this for the foreseeable future for CFB playoff picture assuming Bama beats Georgia in the SEC championship game:

  1. Alabama 2. Georgia 3. Ohio State 4. Cincinnati

Now, let’s get to the recap.

WEEK 6 RE$ULTS

1. Charlotte -3.5 (vs. FIU)

🚨WINNER🚨

We were all over this one: Charlotte by double digits.

2. Auburn UNDER 15.5 (vs. Georgia)

🚨WINNER🚨

Georgia’s defense is honestly unbelievable. Maybe the best we’ve ever seen in our lifetime. And given other Power 5 team’s backup quarterback play (cough cough), it is crazy to think they’re stomping everyone with Stetson Bennett playing.

3. Coastal Carolina -19 (vs. Western Kentucky)

🚨WINNER🚨

The Mullets continue to beat the piss out of inferior opponents.

4. Houston vs. Tulane OVER 58.5

🚨 WINNER 🚨

As referenced earlier, Houston ran in a TD while running out the clock late in this game to hit the over. S/o Alton McCaskill winning this one for us.

5. Cowboys -7 (vs. Giants)

🚨 WINNER 🚨

We caught another break here as the Giants lost their QB, RB, and WR1 in this game. I’m still not sure where I stand on the 4-1 Cowboys just yet.

6. Texas +3.5 (vs. Oklahoma) [College Football Gameday Pick]

LOSER 🥲

The Texas mascot head is going back in storage. Or maybe the trash.

Week 6 – 1:1 (+101)

  • Alabama -1000 (vs. Texas A&M) ❌
  • Georgia -800 (vs. Auburn) ✅
  • Coastal Carolina -1100 (vs. Arkansas State) ✅
  • UCLA -800 (vs. Arizona) ✅
  • Ohio State -1700 (vs. Maryland) ✅
  • Tampa Bay -475 (vs. Miami) ✅

LOSER

I can’t believe it. I genuinely can’t. My buddy told me someone lost 506K on a parlay with Bama though, so that made me feel a little better.

Week 6 Long Shot Moneylines

Syracuse +200 (vs. Wake Forest)

LOSER

Ugh.

Navy +410 (vs. Southern Methodist)

LOSER

Look at that scoreboard. We were running 4:1 odds on a coin-flip game. This would have put us back to essentially even on the year for long shot moneylines. God it hurts so much.

WEEK 7 WINNER$:

1. VA Tech +5 (vs. Pitt)

This game is a coin flip and I’ll take any free points Vegas will lend me – particularly when it’s the home team. (To my friend, Pitt fan, I still love you the same and if you’re reading this, I’d take Pitt +5 if that were the case. Maybe.)

2. Alabama -17 (vs. Mississippi State)

This Bulldogs D is bad. So bad, in fact, they are giving up the 8th most rushing yards per game in the country. Subsequently, here’s some things you can expect in this game:

  1. 200+ yards from Brian Robinson
  2. Bama to score 40+
  3. Mid-teens or less for the Bulldogs
  4. Bama covers this by halftime

3. UCLA +2 (vs. Washington)

Washington is just 1-4 ATS, while UCLA is 4-2 ATS. I don’t get who decided this spread but all I know is one team beat LSU and Stanford by double digits and one lost to Montana and has zero wins in regulation. Let’s not overthink this one.

4. Purdue (vs. Iowa) UNDER 16 team points

Purdue has yet to hit an over with their opponent so far this season (0-5). And it goes without saying, Iowa’s defense has been legit all season holding opponents to 13 PPG (4th best in NCAA). I do like the Under 44, but I like Purdue’s team points under even more.

5. Browns -2.5 (vs. Cardinals)

I’m with Vegas here. Love the Browns in this spot. Coming off a tough loss “needing” a win at home. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Browns win this one big.

6. Chiefs vs Washington Football Team OVER 54.5

Both teams are 4-1 in overs this season. The Chiefs are 31st in yards allowed while the WFT is 25th. Besides WFT’s opening weekend, both teams have combined with their opponent to score at least 54 in every game. I don’t think it gets any more straightforward than this.

Week 7 – 1:1 (+111)

  • Iowa -475 (vs. Purdue)]
  • Alabama -900 (vs. Miss State)
  • Cincinnati -1400 (vs. UCF)
  • South Carolina -1100 (vs. Vanderbilt)
  • KC Chiefs -290 (vs. Washington Football team)

We are (over)DUE.

Week 7 Long Shot Moneylines

BYU +198 (vs. Baylor)

Hard to believe this is a future Big 12 matchup. I love BYU in this game. This seems too good to be true.

San Jose State +290 (vs. San Diego State)

Nick Starkel returns (hopefully) and the Spartans upset the #24 ranked Aztecs.

“Please let me know if you see anything that should be added, changed, tweaked,” Schefter wrote Allen. “Thanks, Mr. Editor, for that and the trust. Plan to file this to espn about 6 am (sic).”

Enjoy Week 7 everyone. And Mr. Editor, please let me know if you see anything that should be added, changed, tweaked. Plan to file this to TGM at about 6 am.
