PSA: Being Asian Not Linked to Spreading Coronavirus

I don’t consider myself a social justice warrior (but I strive to become one). However, I have come across like three stories now where someone is giving an Asian person a hard time for this coronavirus outbreak. Like yelling at them on the sidewalk. What in the hell? You mean to tell me there are multiple people that exist that think being Asian somehow contributes to the spread of coronavirus? Does a person like that have an occupation that involves them sitting in an office and making decisions that affect company revenue? There’s no way. How many grade levels would you have to skip in order to miss the part in science where you find out viruses don’t get created inside Asian people and then transmitted by them walking around.

I guess what makes these verbal attacks especially strange is that they are happening on American soil. I could maybe see where your head is at if you flew over to Wuhan and started berating everyone you saw on the sidewalk. Even still, the odds that you would get the message to the right guy are like a billion to one. How many people are there that actually bear the blame? I thought it was just the one guy who ate the bat. Is he even alive at this point?

General rule of thumb should be ‘dont give someone a hard time for being born somewhere else.’ There’s no need to make any judgements about someone based on the way they look. All of us HA-WHITES could do a better job of that, myself included. Sometimes you have to remind yourself that if aliens invaded the earth and started blowing our shit up that we’d all be on the same team. Kinda like how I’ll root for all the Big Ten teams I hate to win their Bowl games…
