Let me preface everything I’m about to say by letting you know that I’m being 100% genuine in this blog. Whatever I say below is not just my opinion in the heat of the moment. This is what I actually believe.
Ok let’s begin. So today I saw the story about this NHL ref who got caught rigging a hockey game. No need to sugarcoat it. That’s exactly what he was doing – rigging a hockey game. He got caught on a hot mic rationalizing his last penalty call.
Maybe if you're a mic'd up ref, you shouldn't express how you wanted to call a penalty against a team earlier in the game, changing how you ref the rest of the game.

My mom taught me that “two wrongs don’t make a right” when I was about 5 years old. Tim Peel is in his mid-50s. I guess he hasn’t figured it out yet. I’m not entirely sure what he was going for here, but the general consensus is that he was attempting to ensure there’d be an even penalty count on both teams.
Your real-life equivalent of this situation would be like you dicking something up at work and then going “eh let me just dick something else up and then it’s all good.”
Just the idea of a sports official trying to set the tone or course-correct a game is enough to make my blood boil. The arrogance of this guy. “I wanted to get a fuckin penalty against Nashville early.”
Dude that’s the exact purpose you are being paid to avoid. You are there to ensure the players decide who wins and to make sure that happens organically. You’re not there to try and manufacture a bunch of penalties. I can assure you that 0.00% of sports fans are watching the game to enjoy the performance of the refs. Just stay the hell out of the way and if anybody tries to take off their skate and stab somebody then that’s your cue to step in with your little bitchass whistle.
Thankfully the NHL weighed in and was ready to take immediate action (the following morning after the backlash had potential to hurt the revenue stream).
Referee Tim Peel no longer will be working NHL games now or in the future. https://t.co/mrnDc61W5P pic.twitter.com/tKsg2SwGh8

My only complaint with the NHL’s decision? This can’t be the extent of the punishment. I need way more.
Supposedly this dickhead was planning on retiring at year’s end. His punishment cannot be limited to an early retirement. We have to make this guy pay the ultimate price. Do you want the other officials to continue doing this type of stuff? Make an example out of him for god’s sake. Where’s Roger Goodell when you need him?
I’d like to see criminal charges. Seriously. I genuinely think this guy should do 3-5 years in a maximum security prison. Tim Donaghy got 15 months of prison for betting on the games he officiated. How is this any different? At least Donaghy had some financial motivation to do so. This Tim Peel guy got caught pre-determining what calls he wants to make and he doesn’t even have skin in the game. What kinda world am I living in? Lock his ass up.
Man that gets me fired up just thinking about it. I’d almost rather have zero refs involved than a set of refs who intentionally affect the outcome of the game. Just imagine how many games this asshole has officiated in during his career. Imagine how many people bet on games he’s involved in. Imagine being a Nashville fan and hearing the ref come over your speakers and say he “wanted a fuckin penalty.” Imagine losing a bet because Tim Peel was actively looking to screw your team over. You thought you were betting on the NHL, but surprise surprise – Tim Peel has you gambling on fake wrestling.
In conclusion, go fuck yourself Tim and I hope you rot in prison.
PS – too good not to share –
In honor of the @NHL firing referee Tim Peel today for his hot mic incident, I'd like to play him off with his finest moment as an official when he took a puck to the nuts that ended up in the net pic.twitter.com/4c7PDfYEtw

The lowkey funniest part of that video is the announcer explaining that Tim Peel got drilled in the nuts by saying “Peel is down. Still on one knee. This one caught him right in the mid-section.”
“Mid-section.” True hockey guys stay explaining injuries with the most vague non-descriptive terms they can think of. Even when a ref gets blatantly drilled in the nuts and they show it in slow-mo.
