The $ix Rack (SEASON 2!) Presented by Trav: Week 4

Another solid 4-2 week from your boy puts us at 9-3 over the past two weeks. Even if you lost a lot of money this weekend, just be happy that you didn’t have any sewage dumped on your head.

College football looks like it may actually not be super boring this year…right? Alabama and Clemson may finally be actually beatable by someone other than themselves. Ohio State seems to be struggling to find its feet on both O and D. Oklahoma just made Nebraska look decent. Yeah, maybe we’re getting ahead of ourselves a little given how early it is. The $ix Rack’s Week 4 predictions for college football playoff spots in order: 1. Alabama (12-1), 2. Georgia (12-1), 3. Oklahoma (12-0), 4. Oregon (12-1).

It’s the “Year of the Underdog” so far in the NFL. Underdogs were 9-7 ATS this week with five winning outright. This was of course following Week 1 where underdogs were 12-4 (!!!) ATS and NINE underdogs won outright.

Looking back on this makes me think about how many “THE WRONG TEAM IS FAVORED” alerts I missed. Oh well, there’s still plenty of season yet. While we’re being erratic, let’s throw out a Super Bowl prediction as well. I’ll be boring as all hell and give me the Chiefs over some surprise NFC team like the 49ers Cardinals Seahawks. Chiefs over Seahawks, yeah. No one write that down.

Let’s get to last week’s action:

LAST WEEK’S PICKS

1. Washington Football Team -3 (vs New York Giants)

LOSER

There is nothing worse in gambling than a team favored by a field goal winning and not covering. I take back anything nice I said about Taylor Heinicke. Sure he threw for 300 yards, but this genuinely seemed like some type of crappy sports movie ending watching him celebrate with his teammates after the winning field goal.

What on earth is that? Now go kiss your girlfriend who coincides as the coach’s daughter and let’s wrap up this feel good story. (Seriously though, someone get Fitzy out of the ICU.) I genuinely thought I was watching that horrible movie Second String where Jon Voigt is coaching the Bills with whoever that actor is leading the squad.

And let’s not even get into the facial hair on this man.

I tried to dig up a picture of me in 8th grade before I shaved for the first time to prove I could grow facial hair better than this but didn’t have any luck. So you’ll just have to take my word for it.

2. Virginia Tech vs West Virginia Under 50.5

🚨 WINNER 🚨

Another West Virginia under hits. It’s crazy times, people.

3. Boise State -3.5 (vs Oklahoma State)

LOSER

A late scoop and score blown dead by an accidental whistle cost us here as Boise State wasn’t able to punch it in. College refs strike again.

4. BYU +3.5 (vs Arizona State)

🚨 WINNER 🚨

Another Saturday night full of pizza and pop in Provo.

5. Broncos -6 (vs Jaguars)

🚨 WINNER 🚨

This worked out just as expected: Broncos by two scores. Someone please get some vitals on Urban.

6. Penn State -5 (vs Auburn) [College Gameday Pick]

🚨 WINNER 🚨

Three College Gameday covers in a row. I think we have officially found Lee’s replacement.

Week 2 – 1:1 (+103)

  • Coastal Carolina (-600) vs Buffalo ✅
  • Alabama (-700) vs Florida ✅
  • Stanford (-450) vs Vandy ✅
  • UCLA (-340) vs Fresno State ❌

LOSER

Week 2 Long Shot Moneylines

Raiders +194 (vs Steelers)

🚨 WINNER 🚨

All over this one. For what it’s worth, I’m leaning towards the Raiders are for real.

Washington State +260 (vs USC)

LOSER

Texted the editor the Cougars were looking great up 14-0 early and then Jaxson Dart came off the bench and led the Trojans to 45 unanswered. What can I say other than I didn’t see that one coming? Another breakeven week for us though aka free entertainment.

WEEK 4 PICKS:

This week’s winners:

1. Missouri -2.5 (vs. Boston College)

Phil Jurkovec’s back-up was 5/13 for 34 yards last week and I am supposed to believe that BC can hang with an SEC team? Yeah, I am just not buying it. I was shocked to see BC was 3-0 until I realized they played Colgate, UMass, and Temple who are a combined 1-8. If Mizzou wins this game by three touchdowns, I will be 0% surprised.

2. Arkansas +5.5 (vs. Texas A&M)

There is a #7 next to Texas A&M’s name because they were really good last year. Their wins this year have shown nothing to warrant being ahead of Arkansas. This game is a complete toss-up and I’d argue Arkansas should be favored playing at home.

3. Iowa -23 (vs. Colorado State)

Iowa 3-0 ATS so far. Gotta think this is a game where they accumulate nearly 500 yards of offense and score at least 40-45 points. And coming off just 21 points against Vandy and 22 against Toledo, I can’t imagine Colorado State scores much more than 10-14 points. Iowa by 30+.

4. Charlotte 49ers -3 vs Middle Tennessee State

If they can beat Duke at home, they can beat MTSU by a field goal (or more) at home 9 times out of 10.

5. Tampa Bay +1 (vs Rams)

The Bucs have covered 5 straight as an underdog with TB12 and won four of those five outright. Also, I just don’t love the Rams.

6. Notre Dame/Wisconsin OVER 46.5 [College Gameday Pick]

Everything in the world tells me this will be under. Two midwest teams with good defenses. But I think a neutral field can help both offenses. And it’s gonna be perfect weather conditions on Saturday in Chicago. I think the over hits so late in this game that it hurts… for under bettors at least.

Week 4 – 1:1 (+103)

  • Maryland -650 (vs Kent State)
  • Ravens -420 (vs Lions)
  • Panthers -400 (vs Texans)
  • Oklahoma -800 (vs WVU)

Week 4 Long Shot Moneylines

Arkansas +186 (vs Texas A&M)

🚨 THE WRONG TEAM IS FAVORED ALERT 🚨

New York Jets +440 (vs. Broncos)

The last time the Broncos were double digit favorites was 2016 when they lost to the 0-5 Giants by 2 TD’s. The Jets are ultimately going to win a game we never thought they’d win and I think they stand a reasonable chance this week as the Broncos injuries start piling up.

Enjoy Week 4!
